Girls' Generation

  • Filming location

For their 15th anniversary all eight members reunited for the variety show 'Soshi Tamtam', and it took them to Donghae. At Mureung Byeolyucheonji — a limestone quarry that became lakes and a playground — Girls' Generation screamed their way down the cliffside alpine coaster. Start at Donghae Station and you can see both the sea and the old mine in a day.

In episode 3 of JTBC's 'Soshi Tamtam', all eight members took on three extreme missions here for a one-million-won prize. The alpine coaster that rattled Hyoyeon and Tiffany climbs backwards to a 120-metre cliff, then drops at up to 70 km/h. For more than forty years this was a limestone quarry feeding cement plants; it reopened as a tourist site in 2022, and the emerald Cheongok and Geumgok lakes now sit in the pits that were dug out. There is no Girls' Generation marker on site — they visited, but nothing was built to commemorate it.
